Intense Christmas-spice and eggnog, with creamy vanilla overtones…
Review by Steve Kirwan
PRODUCT DETAILS:
- Product Name: Slane Irish Whiskey
- Description: Triple Cask Matured Blended Irish Whiskey
- Price: $24
- Producer: Slane Distillery
- Parent Company: Brown-Forman
- Additional Information: Slane is a newcomer to Irish Whiskey production, and came right out of the chute with a superb NAS blended Irish whiskey. With a high level of malt and sherry cask finishing, the whiskey is quite complex, with intense egg-nog spice and a warming, dry finish. Excellent on its own right, it would make an incredible mixer for eggnog, Coke, or other drink where Christmas spices would be useful. This is a very unique whiskey, ideal for mixing but great as an after-dinner or cigar dram, too!
REVIEW:
- Rating*: 3
- Nose: Intense Christmas-spice and eggnog, with creamy vanilla overtones, melons, banana pudding, cereal grains, and a hint of butter. Fragrant and complex (I could smell it for days!)
- Palate: Light-bodied, but with an intense rush of sweetness that quickly dries. Spices, more eggnog, custard, and bitter molasses.
- Finish: Maple syrup, then ginger, egg custard, and more, more, more Christmas-spice. A long, warming finish that lingers. Ends with hints of cloves, allspice, and crushed wild rosemary.
