Once aged, they are married in first-fill ex-bourbon casks. “Monkey Shoulder” refers to the repetitive motion injury caused by years of hand-turning malting barley. The unique strain caused one shoulder to slump down, much like a monkey’s gait.

REVIEW:

  • Rating*: 3
  • Nose: Clean, floral, and malty, with sweet notes of vanilla and orange creamsicle, winter spices, chocolate, raisins, and faint acetone.
  • Palate: Light-bodied, warm and subtle, with fresh barley and malted cereal notes, plus hints of butterscotch candy, honey, chocolate wafers, and canned pears. There is also a distant sense of oak.
  • Finish: Short-ish finish, smoothing into a mild aftertaste of orange zest, spice, wood, and malt.
