Young, dry, sherry-forward youthfulness with hints of tobacco and tea

PRODUCT DETAIL:
- Product Name: Balnellan Speyside Glenlivet Sherry Cask
- Description: Speyside NAS Single Malt Scotch Whisky
- Price: $32
- Producer: Unspecified

- Additional Information: Low-cost Sherry-bomb! Balnellan NAS Speyside Glenlivet Sherry Cask Single Malt Scotch is as much a mouthful to taste as it is to say!. The Oloroso sherry finish is persistent in the nose, palate and finish, and the 46% ABV requires a few sips before the flavors open up. Adding a bit of quality water tames the alcohol and allows the more subtle flavors pop. It won a Silver at the SF Spirits Competition.
REVIEW:
- Rating*: 2
- Nose: Toffee candy, vanilla, and sherry notes with tropical fruits, cedar chips, and pipe tobacco.
- Palate: Dry, medium-body with sherry richness, old leather and raisiny notes, followed by winter spices, papaya, and black tea.
- Finish: Warm, but short finish with trailing notes of malt, cedar, bitter maple, and slivered almonds. Adding water softens the finish, but brings out some peppery hints, brandy, and toffee.
