Big, bold and medicinal with intense peat, smoke, turpentine, and then sweetness

- Additional Information: Smokey Joe Islay Malt is a blended (vatted) malt peat monster, checking off all the classic Islay characteristics, with a backdrop of fruit and sweetness. It’s definitely a “love-it-or-hate-it” experience: big, bold, and intense. Neither subtle nor soft, it immediately grabs you with smoke and peaty phenols and never lets you go. Non-chill filtered, bottled at 46% ABV.
REVIEW:
- Rating*: 1
No judgment, it’s just not for me! I love Islays, but this one is too phenolic for my preferences. - Nose: Intense smoke with a backing of eggnog, orchard fruits, and green melons, followed by an intensely medicinal phenolic aroma with hints of burnt plastic and band-aids.
- Palate: Big and bold with more intense smoke and turpentine, then a warming sweetness that quickly dries. Spices, more eggnog, custard, and bitter molasses.
- Finish: Youthfull aggression with a hot start and a long, warming finish of intense smoke, turpentine, and then more sweetness.
