Light-bodied, subtle floral and oak notes, with soft vanilla and orange peel
Review by Steve Kirwan
- Product Name: Grangestone 12 Highland Single Malt
- Description: 12-year-old Highland Single Malt Scotch
- Price: $30
- Producer: Unspecified
- Parent Company: William Grant and Sons
- Produced/Distributed By: William Grant and Sons
- Additional Information: Grangestone is a bottler/blender owned by William Grant and Sons producing value-priced, high-quality Scotch expressions for mega-retailer Total Wine and More. This one, aged 12 years, is a Highland whisky, likely from Kinvinie distillery, and matured in new-fill American oak casks. As with most Grangestone Scotches, it’s a good value for the quality. Not excessively complex, it makes a great low price entry-level Scotch or daily dram.
REVIEW:
- Rating*: 3
- Nose: Subtle floral notes with hints of vanilla, oak, malt, and berries. Wisps of sweet wine and faint smoke. Very pleasant, but mild.
- Palate: Light body with a clean, soft mouthfeel and almost no alcohol burn. Refined, especially for the price. Black tea, hints of sherry, and slightly syrupy without being oily.
- Finish: Soft and mild finish, with vanilla, chocolate, and candied citrus peel. Ends with a distant echo of smoke and malt.
